Paducah, KY, February 10, 2025– Baking enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to enter the West Kentucky Pie Baking Contest for a chance to win cash and other prizes, and to support two local nonprofits.

Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center and Market House Theatre have teamed up to put on the contest to promote Market House Theatre’s upcoming show, Waitress, which follows Jenna, a baker in an abusive relationship with her husband. Proceeds from the event will be split between the two organizations.

The West Kentucky Pie Baking Contest is open to anyone. Contestants must purchase an entry between Feb. 10 and March 19 through the Market House Theatre website at markethousetheatre.org. Entries are $20.

The contest will begin at 6 p.m. sharp on Saturday, March 22, at the Market House Theatre Studio 200 Studio.

Contestants must bring two identical 9”-10” pies in disposable tins, one for official tasting and the other to be enjoyed by guests. Judging will take place from 6-6:30 p.m., followed by an award ceremony and reception.

Guests who do not have a pie to enter, but would like to join the festivities (and taste the spoils!) do not need to enter the contest! Eaters and merry-makers are encouraged to donate $10 via the Market House Theatre website prior, or at the door.

Prizes will be awarded in four categories: Best Sweet Pie, Best Savory Pie, Junior Division (13 and under), and People’s Choice.

  • Sweet & Savory Divisions: 1st Place $100; 2nd Place $50; 3rd place $25.
  • Junior Division: 1st Place $50 voucher to any 2025 Market House Theatre summer camp.
  • People’s Choice: 2 tickets to see Waitress at Market House Theatre.

One Grand Prize Winner will be chosen from the 1st place winners. Their recipe and a feature about them will appear in the Waitress Playbill at Market House Theatre. They will also receive 4 tickets to see Waitress at Market House in June.
