Paducah, KY, February 3, 2025– An annual opportunity to support survivors of intimate partner violence is coming up Saturday! Shop & Share is a one-day donation drive that asks grocery shoppers at stores across Kentucky to shop for what they need and share an item with their local domestic violence program.
Merryman House Domestic Crisis Center is western Kentucky’s domestic violence program and emergency shelter.
Shop & Share is championed by Kentucky’s First Lady Britainy Beshear and hosted in partnership with Kroger. Since the event began in 2008, generous shoppers have contributed more than $5 million in goods and monetary donations to support survivors of intimate partner violence and their children statewide. Through the 2024 event alone, the Merryman House received more than $8,000 in groceries and monetary donations.
Volunteers will be onsite at Murray and Paducah Kroger locations between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday to share the Merryman House shopping list, or shoppers can access a mobile list via the Shop & Share QR Code displayed on signs throughout the stores.
“The donations we receive through Shop & Share go directly to the survivors we serve, which allows us to reallocate our finite resources to other critical services,” said MHDCC Director of Community Engagement, Kayla Myers. “I love Shop & Share from the beginning to the end – from the volunteer who hands our list to a shopper, to the shopper who donates an item to a survivor, to the survivor who benefits from the grocery item, to Merryman House using its funds on a different barrier or need that survivor has – because we get to watch the ripple effect of a single volunteer’s actions, and then those of a single donor’s gift.
